Four Silhouettes to Play With This Summer
Talking pieces, not investments
It's easy to lean on your wardrobe basics season after season, and you should, they're basics for a reason. But wear nothing except classics and getting dressed can start to feel a bit flat. This week we're looking at four "talking piece" silhouettes trending for summer 2026: fun, generally affordable, and exactly the kind of piece that gives an outfit some personality without asking for a big investment.
Balloon pants
Not for everyone, and that's fine
Bloomer-style balloon pants are already appearing in a lot of stores, and they're a genuinely divisive silhouette. They ask for a bit of height to carry off well, and they sit best in a soft, floaty fabric rather than anything structured or stiff. The nicest version I've found is a mocha drapey satin pair from Desray, and I've completely fallen for them. I'll be sharing different ways to style these on my socials, so keep an eye out.

Still strong for cooler summer days
The track or sportswear jacket that showed up everywhere in winter hasn't gone anywhere for summer. It's a genuinely useful layering piece for cooler summer days, since it's light enough not to overheat you. There are two ways to wear the trend right now: a mono polka dot version that's fun and a little playful, and a khaki green version that leans more stylish, in a classic funnel-neck shape.
Frog-closure jacket
Something a little different
Here's the trend I'd call a genuine talking piece: a fitted jacket finished with frog buttons and braid loop closures down the front, a detail borrowed from military-style tailoring. It's not one I'd necessarily spend a lot on myself, but it's something different if you want to try a trend that stands out. Here's a current option from Zara.
Bermuda shorts
The one I'm properly leaning into
This is the trend I'm properly leaning into this season. Bermuda shorts can step in for your usual denim jeans once the weather heats up, and the real appeal is how versatile they are. Worn casually they're an easy everyday piece, but team a pair with a blazer and heels and they become a perfectly smart office look. Lengths vary from on-the-knee to just below it, so it's worth trying on a couple to find the length that suits you.
