Spring Is On The Way
A detox and layering guide for the in-between
Hello my fashionable ladies,
It's been a while since we connected, and spring is properly on its way, which means it's time to clear the head and the closet. This in-between-season is my favourite time of year to pause and take real stock of my wardrobe: what did I actually reach for this winter, and what's been sitting there, unworn?
Before you buy a single new thing for spring/summer, do the wardrobe detox first.
Do The Detox First
Tip 01
Cost per wear, honestly
Pack or move your heavy winter pieces out of daily reach, then look honestly at what summer items you already have. Ask yourself what you genuinely need to complete your look, and what you'd forgotten you owned. A quick cost per wear check on your winter pieces is a lovely thing to carry into next winter, too.
Tip 02
One item, one hanger
Don't hang more than one item per hanger. Group everything by colour and category: tops in white together, tops in soft colours together, all your denim together, and so on through the rest of your wardrobe. Once everything is visible like this, getting dressed in the mornings becomes so much simpler.
Dressing For The In-Between
Spring is already landing in the shops, but let's be honest: it's still very chilly here in Cape Town. We're not ready for dresses or shorts just yet, so think layers, and think jeans, whether classic blue or a softer cream.
One colour I've fallen for recently is taupe. I spotted a stunning pair at H&M, and it's the loveliest in-between shade for this time of year.
As the days warm up, you can start easing out of socks and into closed-toe ballet pumps or sneakers, so your feet stay warm while your outfit lightens up.
This week's colour
I saw a stunning taupe pair at H&M recently. Such a lovely in-between colour, and an easy swap for your usual blue.
A few more easy combinations to build on:
Open or closed
A denim shirt or shacket you can wear buttoned or open. Genuinely one of the best in-between pieces you can own.
The one basic to own
As it warms up, ditch the socks and move into closed-toe ballet pumps or sneakers so your feet stay cosy. This one is a quiet basic that will take you a long way, and it teams beautifully with taupe jeans.
If you'd rather not tackle your wardrobe detox alone, now's a lovely time to get hold of me and we'll do it together.
