what I’ve been wearing lately
This week I’m sharing some of my recent outfits. A few are on repeat, because when something works, it works. Some pieces are new, adding the occasional new item is what keeps getting dressed feeling exciting rather than like a chore. But many of these are pieces I’ve had for years, restyled in ways that make them feel current again. That’s the whole point.
Hopefully something here sparks an idea for you to go and shop your own wardrobe before you reach for your credit card.
MY LOOKS LATELY
Let’s talk about the high-low mix
But here’s my honest take as a stylist: it’s not about how much you spend. It’s about knowing where to spend and where to save.
The places I’d encourage you to be more considered? Knitwear, shoes, belts and bags. A cheap acrylic knit will pill after a few washes and start to look tired very quickly – instead, look for a blend with wool or another natural fibre. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just better quality. And accessories are the thing that can elevate, or completely undermine, an entire outfit.
Denim is a little more nuanced. The high street does some great well-priced jeans that wear well but there’s also a strong argument for investing in one or two really good pairs. Good denim, worn well, is worth every cent. The trick is in the mix: pair a lower-priced basic with something of quality, and the whole look lifts.
Shop local. Shop second hand.
There are so many incredible locally grown brands worth supporting, and the quality is often exceptional.
And thrifting? I love it. When I have the time to properly dig through a good vintage or second-hand store, it’s one of the most satisfying ways to find something truly unique. If you’d like me to highlight some of Cape Town’s best vintage shops, let me know – I’d love to put something together for you.
What would you like to see more of?
More outfit breakdowns? More budget-friendly styling? More local brands, more thrift finds? This blog is for you and I want to make sure it’s actually useful.
