One of the most amazing things about what I do is coming across and meeting so many talented people and mostly women in my industry. This year has been just that for me so far, from interacting with my marketing company to my PR guru, they bring such passion and enthusiasm to their craft. Marele from Free Range Jewels is another one of those passionate woman, I was introduced to her last week where I went to meet her in her studio. Those ladies that follow me on social media will know how passionate I am about my jewellery so I was delighted by what I saw. Marele loves to design items that have a very strong local, South African flavour, she says “the Frangipanis were the first flower I incorporated into my collection, they adorn the street in my neighborhood from Dec till mid March, I love the vivid colours, fragrance and lush foliage” Although not indigenous to SA, these flowers have different meanings in the various cultures.
One of the things I like to do from time to time is re fashion some of my old gold, my mom left me some jewellery but the styling was old fashioned so re styling into something more current and modern is a great idea but still keeping the sentiment behind the design is important. This is something that Free Range Jewels will also do with you.
This was the pair I loved the most, their is something so feminine and pretty about this pair of earrings. In the centre Marele has used a black rose cut diamond set in 9ct gold.
Free Range Jewels is giving away a pair of these Frangipani earrings with a diamond centre set in silver to one lucky winner valued at over R1000, see below how to enter.
I loved taking a tour of Free Range Jewels studio. Marele does all the designing and then liases with her goldsmiths to bring these pieces to life.
I am going to be running a workshop with Marele and Free Range Jewels in May at there studio, whereby we will chat about fine jewellery and fashion and how to incorporate the two in our daily lives as well as having fun by stamping our own disc necklaces so let me know if this is something that interests you.
