Shoo, my A/W fashion event is finally over so now I can breathe and start blogging again! If you missed it, it was an incredible event which went off very successfully. If you couldn’t make it this time then book for summer. In the meantime one of the looks I covered on Tuesday was the importance of a core capsule wardrobe. There is no point buying fashion, trendy merchandise if you don’t have the basics to back it up. Hence I am starting with core basic items that every women should have in her wardrobe, I am warning you though this is going to be a long one!! The Parisians really have this look tuned to a fine art. As this is quite a long blog I will split it up and post the remaining core items on Monday. Have a fab weekend.
A classic trench jacket in stone, camel or caramel like this one from Studio WW at Woolworths is an absolute must have. It is so easy to combine with all your existing items.
Invest in a black leather “biker type” jacket, try not to go faux leather as it never wears the same. This is a great item for dressing your look down over dresses, wear with skirts, pants or jeans.
A black or even navy blazer is a key core item to have, a necessity in every women’s wardrobe. If you are wearing a pair of jeans and white shirt by adding a blazer it will automatically give you a slightly smarter look. This blazer is from Zara.
A white shirt is a no brainer as it can be worn in so many ways and you can create very different looks with this one item. This particular shirt is from Poetry stores.
A cream “silk” type blouse is also a must have as this can dress up a pair of jeans. So if you are wearing a white shirt and denims during the day and you need a quick change of clothes for a drink after work slip this on with denims and you automatically look more stylish. This item is from Witchery.
A denim shirt is a great addition to your wardrobe as it is very versatile, wear it as is or unbuttoned with a basic t underneath. You can find this one at Foschini.
Whatever you do please invest in good quality knitwear especially in a basic colour like grey melange but even black and camel are great core colours for winter. Rather buy natural yarns such as cashmere, wool, cotton or blends as opposed to acrylic. The reason being is that this will then last you more than one season if you look after them well. This item is from Country Road at WW.
A black button up cardigan will never go remiss but if this is not your style then look for a more waterfall type cardigan which is open fronted or has a tie belt instead. This cardigan is from David Jones in WW.
Sometimes a core wardrobe can be a bit monotone so introducing a stripe in black/white or navy/white is great to create different outfit combinations. Looks fabulous worn under your classic blazer.
You can never go wrong with buying core basic t shirts in white, grey melange and black. They are a great vehicle for accessorizing with printed scarves or necklaces. These 3 are available from Signature clothing.
